New Blog Design

So I finally got the personalized design I wanted. Thanks to some pushing from Martha… Anyway, I just spent the past 2 hours working on my final project and have only a little bit to show for my efforts. Just wanted everyone to know I am working albeit slowly. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Test Post

This is a test post for the digital storytelling catagory.

A very very short update

So these past two weeks since we have been back have been hellish. I can’t seem to find time to get everything done, and that includes blogging. I appologize for not getting to this sooner, it’s just that academics have taken the lead in the race of important things in my life. Other than school I have also been rehearsing for two shows and dealing with all of the extra things involved in ideas in performance. I am not up to date on anything and I think I might go a little crazy. Now that the mid-terms(yes that is plural) are over with I can finally get to a pile of things that are waiting for me. I’ll blog more on these past two weeks at a later time as it is almost time for yet another class… Off to learn.

A lost day

I just realized a post for Friday never went up. I would like to apologize for that… I had hoped to do at least one post a day but that apparently didn’t happen. Anyway, Friday was a good day. I got to shadow Richard Kornberg and goto a meeting with him with the producers and their team for Hairspray and listen to what went on there. It was really interesting to see the inner workings of a show. I had a really good time with Richard he showed me around his office too and I got to go through all of the files that they have on their current and old projects which was really neat. After I left Richards office I realized that our trip to the MET had been cancelled so Sarah and I got something to eat as I had not eaten all day. We then got a little sightseeing and shopping done which was nice because it was a wonderful day. That night we went out to a wonderful restaurant called Candela just off of Union Square which was really nice, albeit dark. Then we saw [title of show] which was just wonderful, I would say it is definatly on the top of my list of favorite things we have seen. I really liked it, it was so new and original and all the cast members just radiated joy from what they were doing. It is really worth seeing, I would see it again if I had the chance. That night we went out to see Natalie Joy Johnson sing at a bar. She is just wonderful, she has such a beautiful voice and was so nice to us. We stayed out kind of late that night and only got in at like 3am so I think thats why I may have missed a blog post. Anyway, I need to get some sleep in so I will blog tomorrow!

Last full day in NYC

So this is it… It seems like this past week has flown by so fast. It seems like only yesterday we were dragging our luggage across midtown. Well anyway, today we saw Red Light Winter and The Seven. Both ok shows in my opinion, I wasn’t blown away by either of them. I’m not sure why, the performance in Red Light Winter was amazing, the actors were awsome, and the set was really cool I just was not as in love with it as I could have been. The performance of The Seven was a little lacking so I didn’t really really enjoy myself like I thought I would. And the house management staff at the New York Theatre Workshop is not the best. They were very rude to a lot of the patrons so that kind of set me in a funk. Anyway, in the middle of the two shows we walked around downtown, we went to Canal Street and then did a sort of zig zag east to get to the Workshop. It was nice just to walk around and see that part of the city in the daytime. Once The Seven was over we just came back and had our daily conversation about the shows. You can listen to the podcast once we get it up. After that you would think that we would have gone out on the town since it was our last night here but I was just too tired. So Tori and I went and got some pizza down the street and then we came back and packed. Now I’m here writing this and seriously concidering going to sleep. Anyway, I’ll write more tomorrow and it’ll be a comprehensive post too.

Wow, excellent day!

So yeah today was nice, I got to sleep in again (whats up with that?), I got up got a quick nice little cheese and bread lunch from starbucks, ironed a shirt for the better part of an hour, then got to go back stage of Phantom of the Opera and meet with the PSM Craig Jacobs. Lets just say that it was so awsome that I can’t even begin to describe how cool it was to see. Everything about it was so interesting, it makes me wonder why I’m not pursuing stage management. This guys job seems awsome, I loved everything he had to say and everything he showed us. Jess and I iRivered the whole thing so I’ll post that ASAP. It was realleay fun. We also did a little videolog entry after it was over too so await that with suspence. Anyway, once that was over Jess’ mom got into town so we went and hung out with her for a while and then went off to John’s Pizzaria which was awsome. Then we went over a few blocks to see Rabbit Hole which I liked a lot it had an amazing set and I love Tyne Daly so much it was really cool to see her in it. After that was over my day got really amazing. I went to the Palm to meet with Richard Kornberg, living legend in publicity. He was amazing, he had so much to share and was really nice. He even offered to let me follow him around tomorrow which is just going to be awsome. I really liked all he had to say about his career. It makes me even consider the publicity route even more. I think tomorrow will be an excellent opportunity and I can’t really wait till tomorrow, so I’m going to go take a shower and get into bed. I’ll write more as soon as I can.

Almost bad day

Well ok, so the day was excellent. I got to sleep, I got to see one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen from a design stand point, I got to see something I have been dying to see ever since we arrived, and I laughed harder than I have in a long time. Once all of that was over my day almost got ruined. I say almost because apparentlt there is someone out there looking out for me. I’ll get to all of the finer details of the day in the next paragraph.
Alright, so I woke up at noon which is something I haven’t done in a LONG LONG time, like 9am is a blessing so that was really nice. Jess, Sarah, Jil, Jon, and I went to McDonalds for a quick bite this morning. I know what you’re thinking… why McDonalds… well I dunno why it was there we were late and hungry so it happened. Jess and I then went to see Lion King. All I have to say is it was amazing. There are no words to describe how beautiful the show was. Well we spent a lot on the tickets but they were worth every penny, I really enjoyed myself. Once we were done with the show Jess and I went to Central Park to walk around for a while. I got to see the Bethesda Fountain and am so happy that I did because I have been wanting to ever since we got here. I think I love central park. Its so nice, I would like it to be a little warmer the next time I am there though. We came back from the park just the haul ass over to the Circle in the Square to see Spelling Bee. This is were I laughed harder than I have in a long long time. I really liked it. It was a lot of fun. We got to speak with the actors for a few minutes after the show tonight too. That was really cool as one of the actors was involved in writing the show. Well once back in the room I found out that I had lost the ticket I had for Lion King, now while this doesn’t seem like such as big deal it really was as without it I couldn’t get reimbursed for the money. I would have been out a lot of I was really ticked off with myself for a long time. If anyone listens to the podcast of tonights disscussion you’ll not hear me saying much because I was so annoyed. Well, to make a really long story short and leave out all my feelings of mental anguish(BTW I can’t stand losing things), I got the ticket back and anyone who wants to know the full story can ask me in person. But as for now Jess needs the internet to blog. I still have no pictures to post in here but I’m working on it. Tomorrow should be another awsome day so we’ll just have to wait and see.

A late update

It is now 3am on Wednesday and I am finally getting to my blog. Apparently there are lots of things to do in this city. Anyway, it was a really good day for me interview wise. I got to meet with two attorneys from the Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell, and Vassallo firm. They were Daniel Wasser and Elliot Brown. These men were very very helpful in getting across a lot of the information I needed to hear for my specific subject as well as what I might do to get into the buisness. I met with Mr. Wasser for the better part of an hour and we spoke about a large range of things. I got to ask specific questions as well as get his opinions on a few current events in theatre. He then gave me some advise for later in life when I attempt to make it in the real world. Mr. Brown popped in for a little while so I got to speak with him a little too. It was a really good morning. After the meeting, which was on Madison Ave., I did a little window shopping by myself and eventually went into the Lacoste store and bought myself a little present for a job well done in the interview with the two attorneys. Once I got back to the hotel I waited for Jess and Sarah to get back from their shopping adventure so that we could go meet Roy Gabay who is both a producer and a general manager. This man was so nice and so interesting. I could not believe the luck we got in meeting with him. He had a great deal to say and I think we provided him with some interesting questions. After the excellent meeting we headed off for lunch at a diner around the corner. Jess and I then dropped Sarah off for her appointment and then headed over to the Lion King box office to see if we could get tickets. Well we got the tickets alright but we got the most expensive ones they had. However, everyone says its worth it so I think we lucked out. We then came back to the hotel and I got a few things done before we went to see Bridge and Tunnel. Let me just say that the show was amazing, the woman who wrote and performed it was excellent. I thought she did a brilliant job and anyone with the opportunity to see it should. Oh and Meryl Streep was there. That was a bit of a shock and it was really cool to see her up close and in person. Anyway, we came back after and had our little meeting and then a few of us went out for a little bit and now I’m here writing this. I haven’t taken many pictures yet and I’m working on getting my audio files edited and up, its just that these days are all so busy and I have little enough time as it is. But if you’re awaiting something specific comment on this post and I’ll see if I can’t rush it through. Anyway, I’m going go hit the sack now as I am not really able to keep my eyes open. Have a goodnight!

Short Update

This will be a really short blog and I promise to catch you all up on everything that happened today in detail but as it is very late and I still have much to do I think I’ll just mention that I had my first interview today and it went very well. I met with Richard Robertson from the Eliran Murphy Group and he had a lot of interesting things to say and he let me record the conversation so after I edit it, I’ll be post it. I then bummed around for a little and waited for the rest of the group to get out of their tour of Radio City Music Hall. Gregg, Sarah, Jess and I then went to SoHo early to grab a bite to eat before seeing Confessions of a Mormon Boy which was very good. I will express much more about this day and the things that happened in it tomorrow sometime but for right now I’m going to get a little more work done and goto sleep.

Peter

P.S. Oh yeah and Jim, I will be adding some photos shortly, and yes this city is really beautiful.

First day in the Big Apple

So I still haven’t found out why they call it the big apple but I’m sure someone will tell me one of these days. It was another one of those long days but I guess in order to get everything in you have to have them everyone once and a while. We started the day off again at 4 am and did the whole plane thing with a layover in Charlotte. We had a little drama over the flight but everything worked out well so there’s no point in explaining the dumb details. We got to Newark around 11 or so and then got into the city an hour later by way of a bus. Let me just say that travelling across this city by foot with at least a persons worth of weight on my back due to my excessive amount of clothing. Well we got in, we got settled and then we were off. We got to see Altar Boyz today. It was an excellent show, just what we needed to see. It was really light-hearted and funny. We got to meet with two of the actors after words and talk to them for a little while which was also really neat. The best part about that half of the day is no only did we get really discounted tickets but we also found this nice little deli on the corner of two streets. I’m not sure which two but we’re all about finding out. We came back to the hotel after the show and then left for the next one. We saw Emperor Jones in Brooklyn… I’m just going to say that in my opinion the show was not the best. It was very loud and very very abrasive. I was just not in the mood. We ended the night by going to a pizza place Jim recommended before we left. It was EXCELLENT. I really liked the pizza, and it looked like a great little mom and pop shop which was nice. I think I fell in love with the Brooklyn Bridge tonight too. It really is very pretty and it was really cool to be right below one of the towers looking up. They are BIG! I really like it here, I can ever see myself living here more and more as I travel through the city. The plans for tomorrow should provide an interesting day so I’m really exceited about it. I might take myself on a little adventure by myself and see where I end up and if I can get back or not. So who knows what is going to happen. Anyway, I’ll be back with more to share tomorrow, as for tonight, goodnight!
